RecordPoint and AIIM Launch Professional Education Series on AI Governance for Information Leaders
Seattle, WA — July 6th, 2026 — RecordPoint, a leader in data and AI governance solutions, in partnership with the Association for Intelligent Information Management (AIIM), today announces the launch of a professional education series Operational AI Governance for Information Leaders. Available online via AIIM+ Pro as a five-part course, and in person at three AI+IM Regional Events in Dallas, Seattle, and Ottawa this fall, the series is designed to help practitioners get ahead of rapidly evolving AI governance requirements.
The online and in-person series comes as information professionals are caught between two pressures: boards demanding faster AI deployment, and compliance teams raising legitimate concerns about the data those systems run on. Expected to govern AI systems, AI-generated content, and AI-assisted decisions, they're often doing it without formal guidance or training.
"Information governance professionals aren't bystanders in AI governance. They're exactly who organizations need leading this work right now.” Says Anthony Woodward, Founder and CEO at RecordPoint. “Data catalogued, clear data provenance, retention and defensible disposal (cleanup): that's what gets data AI-ready, and it's what translates into AI system governance. We built this course with AIIM so those professionals have the language and the practical steps to take the seat at the table that was always theirs."
“Information professionals are being handed AI governance responsibilities faster than the field has been able to develop the frameworks and training to support them,” said Tori Miller Liu, CIP, President and CEO of AIIM. “This educational series is about closing that gap with content that is practical, vendor-neutral, and grounded in the actual work information professionals do.”
Designed for practitioners navigating real-world AI risk, the course covers the full governance lifecycle across six core competencies:
- AI governance responsibilities: Understanding who owns AI governance inside an organization, and how information management teams fit into that picture alongside legal, IT, and risk functions.
- Building AI inventories: Identifying and cataloguing the AI systems in use across the organization — including shadow AI — so governance can start from an accurate baseline.
- Assessing AI risk: Applying structured risk assessment frameworks to evaluate AI systems for regulatory exposure, data quality issues, bias, and compliance gaps before those risks become incidents.
- Governing AI-generated content: Treating AI outputs as records: applying retention schedules, classification policies, and disposition rules to content that no human authored.
- Maintaining audit trails: Creating the documentation infrastructure needed to demonstrate governance accountability — to regulators, auditors, and leadership — at any point in time.
- Creating sustainable governance programs: Moving beyond ad hoc policy responses to design governance frameworks that scale with AI adoption and adapt to regulatory change.
The first course, Who Owns AI Governance? A Guide for IM Leaders, is available now on-demand on AIIM+ Pro. Practitioners who attend one of the three AI+IM Regional Exchange events this fall will receive access to the full course, free for 30 days. Information and registration for the online course and in-person events is available at aiim.org.
